Hope During the Holidays

“Tis the season to be jolly,” may not apply to all of us at this point in time. Instead, many might be raging on about the “season of college applications, finals, or work.” Everyone is waiting for the holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas even – but I can attest to the fact that it appears so far away.

As shown in the movies, my desk is now always piled with stacks of work, my whiteboard covered in writing, and my coffee cup is always empty. A typical autumn/winter day is now characterized with late nights, long assignments, and one cup of caffeine. Unlike the movies, that pile of work will not go down if I work continuously for hours. Nope. I do that, yet still the work seems eternal and ever-growing.

In fact, that pile will probably never decrease in size. If anything, it will grow as I begin to work harder, and experience more things in life. In fact, until I retire, my desk will probably always be strewn with papers and contracts. Because that pile doesn’t represent the work in my life, no. It represents the stress in my life. Right at this moment, all my stress is contained in a pile of papers. It’s the same for any student or working adult; for students, it seems as though their lives are represented by one sheet of paper and one letter in the alphabet, and for adults, it appears that their lives are dominated by papers that come in the mail called bills and taxes.

I’m hoping that by the time the holidays come around, my desk will be more clean, and paper-free. I don’t want my life to be a bunch of words on an ultra-thin, white, piece of wood. I don’t want my stress to consume whatever happiness and hope I have left. So for those of you who are with me, feeling the same amount of stress and exhaustion as I am, hang on. Your time to enjoy is coming up, and will be here before you know it. Keep working hard towards your dreams, however impossible, and don’t lose hope. Enjoy some here and there, and take Youtube star Superwoman’s words of wisdom, “For those of you who feel like you want to give up the fight [against Life] and give up Hope, every dream can come true.” Your desk will be clean soon too 😉

Good luck, especially do those who have deadlines coming up!

P.S. Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the soldiers fighting/who have fought to protect us! Please, do not give up hope; you are strong and brave, and can make it back!
